2009 STATE BUDGET – YAN YEAN
The Victorian State Labor Government has just handed down its Budget for 2009-10. The Budget is all about securing jobs and investing in the services that matter to Victorians.
Highlights of this year’s Budget include:

  • Investing a record $11.5 billion next financial year to fast-track job-creating infrastructure across the state;
  • Investing almost $1 billion to help Victoria respond and recover from the worst bushfires in Australian history;
  • Investing a record $1.71 billion in the state’s education system to prepare Victorians for the jobs of the future;
  • Investing more than $3 billion to deliver the first four years of the Brumby Labor Government’s $38 billion Victorian Transport Plan to create a world-class transport system for Victorians;
  • Investing $2.6 billion to boost Victoria’s hospital and health services; and
  • Investing a record $1.9 billion to provide Victoria Police with the resources they need to keep Victorian families safe.
Police
As part of this record investment, funding will be provided through the Government’s $10 million Police Station Priority Upgrade Program for small refurbishment and maintenance works at both Epping and Whittlesea police stations.

The Brumby Labor Government is committed to investing in our police force to deliver a safer Victoria, now and into the future.

Whittlesea Police Station will receive $33,000 for internal upgrades to the station..
Epping Police Station will receive $25,000 for a custody security upgrade

Health
The Brumby Labor Government is supporting families by ensuring Victorian women have access to the latest breast cancer screening technology, to detect breast cancer earlier and increase the chances of fighting it.

Epping Consulting Centre will share in $10 million for Private Breastscreen services receiving IT upgrades which allows the service to send images to public service for analysis.

Education:
A $402 million Brumby Government state budget boost combined with the Rudd Federal Governments $686 million investment in Victorian schools means more than $1 billion will be spent on Victorian schools – the biggest schools capital boost in the state’s history.

  • Meadowglen Primary School will receive $3 million for a 21st Century Library and Learning Neighbourhood.
  • Apollo Parkways Primary School will receive  $5 million for a Modernisation project
  • Diamond Creek East Primary School will receive $3 million for a 21st Century Library and Learning Neighbourhood.
  • Panton Hill Primary School will receive $850,000 for a Better Schools Today project.

Emergency Services
The State Budget’s record investment ensures that our local volunteer emergency services have the equipment and resources they need to serve our community.

Doreen CFA will receive a Heavy Tanker as part of a $21 million project for CFA Fleet Replacement.

The CFA does a tremendous job in protecting Victorians and their property across the state and the Brumby Labor Government is committed to supporting these vital organisations by investing record fundings in their operations.

Transport
Melbourne’s metropolitan rail network will expand to the growing northern
suburbs with the 2009 State Budget to commit $562.3 million to build a rail
extension of the Epping line to South Morang.
$85.9 million to extend the existing Yellow SmartBus Route 901 service (Ringwood to Frankston) to Melbourne Airport through Blackburn, Greensborough, South Morang, Epping and Roxburgh Park
Metropolitan Bus Improvements Program : As part of a $55 million program the electorate of Yan Yean will receive improved bus services within the Melbourne metropolitan area by providing longer hours of service, wider geographical coverage and more services.

Environment
The 2009-10 Budget includes a range of initiatives that will add to and improve Victoria’s world class parks and
reserves system. This includes $2 million for priority works at six outer urban parks including Merri Creek.

Sport
A further $1 million has been allocated for the Diamond Creek stadium by the Brumby Government taking the total state cash and land contribution so far to $2.525million. I am also continuing to lobby Community Development Minister Peter Batchelor for a further $1million for this much needed project.  Should this be delivered, together with the $3.5million already allocated by the Rudd Government, the Nillumbik Shire should be in a position to start building.

The Victorian State Budget has delivered boosts in Education, Health, Transport, Environment, Emergency Services and Police Stations in the electorate Yan Yean.
It means investment in local infrastructure which in turn will boost our local economy and create more local jobs.
The Brumby Government is taking action now, delivering strong leadership to support Victorian families in tough global times.

Welcome to my website

As a Member of Parliament, keeping in touch with the people who live in my electorate is my number 1 priority.

That’s why I use as many different ways as possible to communicate with local people.

I spend as much time as I can out in our community listening to people’s concerns and meeting with community organisations and businesses.

As well, I hold regular Mobile Offices across the district, so that people who can’t get to my electorate office can catch up with me in person if they need to.

I also spend a lot of time visiting our local schools and talking to students and staff about my work as a Member of Parliament.

But over 50 000 people live in my electorate, so it’s just not possible for me to meet and speak personally with everyone.

That’s why I’ve developed this website. It’s another way for you to let me know what issues are important to you and your family.

I’d encourage you to fill out my online survey or contact me directly via email, phone or post. Or you can visit me at one of my Mobile Offices when I’m next in your area.

I hope you enjoy my site and find it useful.
